LARC
Responsibilities & Services
The Laramie / Albany County Records and Communications (LARC) Center is a division of the Laramie Police Department that provides emergency 9-1-1 dispatching and consolidated records services for all Albany County residents. The LARC Division primarily serves the Laramie Police Department,
Albany County Sheriff’s Office, and the
Laramie Fire Department (both fire and emergency management services).
Additionally, the LARC Division dispatches for nine county volunteer fire departments, assists local Forest Service law enforcement personnel, and serves as the initial point of contact for after-hours emergencies for the City of Laramie Water Department.
Dispatch Unit
The
LARC Dispatch Unit receives more than 11,500 emergency 9-1-1 calls annually. The 9-1-1 system is enhanced and allows dispatchers to accurately locate hardline callers, receive callback number information for all wireless (cellphone) callers, and receive location and callback information for wireless callers whose phones are equipped with a GPS chipset. Additionally, the LARC Dispatch Center now routes statically located Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls directly through the 9-1-1 system. This answering point is currently the most advanced system in the state of Wyoming.
Records Unit
The
LARC Records Unit of the LARC Division serves as the distribution point for records and reports of the Laramie Police Department, Albany County Sheriff’s Office, and the Laramie Fire Department. The Records Unit also completes uniformed crime reporting for Albany County law enforcement.
