Tree Area Overlay District Design Guidelines
Background
Throughout the years, residents and visitors to Laramie have recognized the unique characteristics of the “Tree Area,” as it is commonly known. At the direction of the City Council, staff has started the process of creating design guidelines for the Tree Area Overlay District. Protection of the neighborhood's character was deemed a priority of both the 2007 Comprehensive Plan and the 2010 Unified Development Code. As part of the City’s Unified Development Code, the boundary of the Tree Area Overlay Zone was established and when standards would be required were established; no specific regulations or design guidelines were approved.

Location
The Tree Area is generally located west and south of the University of Wyoming Main Campus and represents an area approximately 438 acres in size. Approximately 1550 structures representing numerous architecture styles are in the district. Underlying zone districts include Downtown Commercial (DC), General Business (B2), Multi-Family Residential (R3), Limited Multi-Family (R2), and Single Family Residential (R1). Uses within the area include single family homes, apartment buildings, University of Wyoming buildings, churches, schools, bed and breakfasts, and a wide variety of businesses.

Survey Request
As part of this process of developing standards, citizen input is important in helping the staff, Planning Commission and City council make decisions based on citizen input. We ask you to participate in a brief online survey.
