Code Enforcement
Division Responsibilities
The Code Enforcement Division functions primarily to investigate and enforce nuisance ordinances pertaining to offensive growth, trash, junk, and junked vehicles located on private property.
General Nuisance Ordinance Regulations
- Junk and junked vehicles - The owner or occupier of a property has the duty to remove all abandoned, discarded, or unused items from that property as described in Section 8.32.180 of the Laramie Municipal Code.
- Offensive growth - The owner or occupier of a property has the duty to remove all dead trees and limbs, and weeds and tall grass over 6 inches tall from that property as described in Section 8.28.020 of the Laramie Municipal Code.
- Removal of Snow, Ice & Debris from Sidewalks - Owners, occupiers, or property managers have the duty to keep the sidewalk adjacent to their properties clear of ice, mud, dirt, rubbish or filth as described in Section 12.08.020 of the Laramie Municipal Code. Offenders of the Offensive Growth, Junk, and Junked Vehicle Code will be notified by mail of their violation. If the offender fails to respond or take corrective action within 48 hours, a second notice will be mailed giving the offender a deadline to take corrective action. If the offender fails to take appropriate action by the deadline given, the code enforcement inspector may hire a contractor to correct the violation and the property owner will be charged the amount of the contractor’s charges plus an administration fee. If the owner, occupier, or property manager fails to take additional action within 48 hours, the code enforcement inspector may turn the issue over to the Laramie Police Department for further action.
If you have any questions or wish to report a code violation, please call the Code Enforcement Inspector or visit the Community Development Department office.
