Dear Friends:

Being the Mayor of Laramie brings me great pride and satisfaction. I moved here over twenty years ago to attend school at the University of Wyoming and I found much more than just an education. I found a beautiful, friendly and welcoming community. We have a great small town feel with all the cultural and educational opportunities of a University. It didn’t take me long to realize that I had found my home.
I believe that we have an amazing blend of assets for a town of our size. If you’re an outdoors enthusiast there is hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, skiing, and probably a host of other things I forgot to mention! If you’re interested in starting or relocating a business, we have strong business support and incentives from our local and state economic development agencies. If you like the Arts, we have wonderful museums, concerts and theatre performances. And if you’re like I was twenty some odd years ago, looking for a safe, comfortable place to raise a family with quality schools you’ll find that too.
As a female Mayor, I am proud to say that Laramie gained international attention in 1870 when Louisa Swain became “the world’s first woman voter under laws guaranteeing absolute political equality.” In September 2003 she was honored with the dedication of a statue at 313 S. Second Street in Historic Downtown Laramie, just one block from the building where Swain cast her historic vote.
As a member of the business community, I am pleased to invite you to Historic Downtown Laramie to visit our fine merchants. We have a great selection of goods and services with a variety that will please everyone—even the kids! In 2010 we anticipate completion of our First Street Plaza, a community park in our downtown with space for outdoor performances and room for the kids to play.
I have watched our town blossom over these past years into a town that is even more beautiful, vibrant and friendly than when I moved here. I believe this is a testament to the people who live here—who care about their neighbors, their community and their environment and put in the effort to make Laramie a place that all of Wyoming calls home.

Sincerely,
Jodi Guerin,
Mayor of Laramie—Wyoming’s Hometown
